From our experience
We ride to the waterfalls ourselves. Bali has big elevation changes, and after punctures, overheated brakes are the most common problem we see. On long downhill stretches the brake fluid can boil, and the brakes stop working. Engine braking is limited on an automatic scooter, so ride down slowly, brake in short pulses and stop to let the brakes cool.
Practical tips
- Start before 9am - Tegenungan gets crowded fast with tour groups
- Any scooter works - roads are smooth and relatively flat
- Wear clothes you can swim in or bring a change of clothes
- Bring cash - entry fees are all cash, 20,000 IDR each
- Google Maps works well for all locations - save offline just in case
