FAQ

Can I rent an electric scooter in Bali?+

Yes. Electric scooter rental is increasingly available, especially in Sanur, Ubud and Canggu. Common brands include Selis, Volta, Smoot, NIU and Yadea. Daily rental is 100,000-150,000 IDR, similar to comparable gas scooters.

Where are gas scooters banned in Bali?+

Sanur is Bali's first official LEZ as of 2026, with restrictions on certain combustion vehicles. Nusa Penida is planned as a green island by 2030. Ubud and Nusa Dua are publicly discussed as future LEZ candidates. Gas scooters are not universally banned across Bali.

What is the range of an electric scooter in Bali?+

Most rental electric scooters have 50-80km range per charge. Sufficient for typical daily use within one area. Not ideal for cross-island trips without charging stops.

Where can I charge an electric scooter in Bali?+

Most rentals include a portable charger for any standard wall socket. Charging at your villa overnight is the most common approach. Some Canggu/Ubud cafes offer EV charging. Public infrastructure is still developing.

How long does charging take?+

3-6 hours from empty to full, depending on model and battery size. Most riders charge overnight or top up during a meal break - similar to charging a laptop.

Is electric faster than gas in Bali traffic?+

At city speeds (under 60 km/h), they feel identical. Electric scooters actually accelerate faster from stops due to instant torque. Top speed is similar (60-80 km/h) - well above Bali's effective traffic speeds.

Are electric scooters safer than gas?+

Same physical safety considerations apply - Bali's traffic and road hazards don't change. Electric scooters are quieter, which has trade-offs: less engine noise warns pedestrians less, but you hear your surroundings more clearly.
